Hot Apple Cider Smoothie is warm and comforting smoothie that is a perfect way to detox after the holiday season. It is sweetened with apples and spiced with ginger and cinnamon. You won’t be able to taste the spinach but it adds vitamin and mineral packed green goodness. Hot Apple Cider Smoothie is gluten free, grain free and vegan.
Apples
Apples are a great way to sweeten your smoothie because they are low in calories and contain plenty of soluble and insoluble fiber that slows down the absorption of the sugar into your blood stream. The two types of fiber also contribute lowering cholesterol, thus reducing your risk of heart attack and stroke. Fiber is also important for keeping you regular and the pectin, primarily found in skin, can be used to help with diarrhea. Apples are very high in antioxidants including quercetin which has anti-inflammatory properties and regulates histamine response.

This smoothie is really easy to make and only has a couple ingredients. First juice your lemon and pour the juice into a high powered blender or food processor.
Add one cup of water, apple chunks, 2 handfuls of baby spinach, ginger, cinnamon, and the protein powder of your choice. I like to use Hemp Pro 70 in this smoothie because it has a mild nutty taste and blends really well with the apples.
Blend the ingredients until they are smooth adding additional water if the smoothie is too thick for your liking. To heat the apple cider smoothie transfer it into a pot and heat until hot. If you have a Vitamix blender, you can continue to blend for 5 min until it is hot. Alternatively you can enjoy the apple cider smoothie at room temperature or blend with two ice cubes for a cold drink.
Finally whisk or blend in the supplements of your choice just before drinking because you do not want to heat them. I like to use a combination of Natural Calm with magnesium to promote relaxation, Nutra Sea fish oil for anti-inflammatory essential fatty acids, Spirulina for immune boosting proprieties, Maca for energy, Asorbic Acid which is another name for vitamin C and MSM which is a joint supporting sulfur compound. I like to mix it up depending on what ails me.
